I have traveled quite a bit and this is one of the nicest overall hotel experiences I have ever had in my life. Here’s why: first and foremost, David, Marlon and the rest of the staff are so, so nice and accommodating. It’s like staying with friends (friends with boundaries – do not fear, they are not overly intrusive, they are perfect). Customer service is absolutely their number one priority. Any time we needed anything, they went out of their way to make it happen and never made us feel like we were any trouble for asking. When we wanted to go zip lining, they drove us there and then picked us up; they also drove us into town a few times (a pleasant 20 minute walk but not one we wanted to make EVERY time) and over to see the butterfly farm (which I highly recommend). They just could not have been nicer. On top of that, the place is STUNNING with amazing views of the beautiful valley from the bungalows. It was so pleasant sitting on my deck watching hummingbirds and butterflies visit all the beautiful plantings outside (very few bugs). Everything is immaculately clean. I wish I’d had time for a bath in the big whirlpool tub with windows looking out over the valley — and I am a germ freak so would never have dreamed of using a hotel bath before (even at some of the 4 star luxury hotels I’ve been lucky enough to stay in), but this one was so clean I think you could have eaten out of it. The bed was super comfortable with high quality linens and firm and soft pillow choices (this last was not our consistent experience in Ecuador, even though we stayed in other very nice hotels; this is a thrifty country, which I think is awesome, but one place we stayed that was very high end still had weirdly ancient linens on their beds!). Breakfast was delicious and cooked to order with many options. Also, David’s English is really excellent, which was a nice break for me as my Spanish is horrible. Went with my husband and three teenage sons and all of us loved it here. An amazing value for what you get.

During our recent trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos, we stayed at 10 different locations. Las Terrazas de Dana by far was our best lodge. No doubts about this! Everything was really outstanding at this lodge: the rooms are superb, clean and quiet; the service is top notch (very friendly and helpful staff); their food (breakfast and dinner) were the best we got in Ecuador; their recommendations for local activities were spot on; etc. Wish all travel experiences were as excellent as at Las Terrazas de Dana. This is a dream property at a dream location, ran by extremely helpful, experienced and knowledgeable people. Travel at its best!

This hotel has only 4 cabins so the attention and service are first rate and outstanding. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable with great views of the valley and mountain range. It lies slightly outside of town so away from the hustle and bustle of Mindo which I loved. The road to the waterfalls is very close and is a good location for birding – particularly closer to the top. We had our own car so were able to drive to town for meals when we wanted or stay at the hotel for meals. The meals here were all good. The hotel is within walking distance of town if you wanted to walk. They only have three or four neighbors further down the dead end road from them so very little traffic along the one lane road fortunately. The property has a small footprint so birding on site is limited. My only nit which I had with every place we stayed in Ecuador is that the water temperature in the shower varies and doesn’t maintain a constant temperature once you find a comfortable setting otherwise you couldn’t ask for a better experience. The hill getting to the rooms is a little steep but any walking in Ecuador is going to involve walking up or down hill. The hotel is also not far from the river which you can hear roaring constantly in the distance.

Not sure where to start because everything was so outstanding. The meals were some of the best we had during our entire 3-week trip. Fresh and delicious at all times. David and Marlon were waiting on us hand and foot every time we appeared in the common room. They made sure we had filtered water for our outings and in our room, and drove us into town if they were available. We did some birding and saw many fabulous birds including Cock o’ the Rock with a local guide whom David arranged. Our lovely and spacious room had a large terrace with an outstanding view into the valley and we saw many birds from there, including 2 Araçari toucans who came to the tree right outside one morning. The grounds are lush with many hummingbirds, heliconia, banana and papaya trees, flowering vines, etc. etc. We had a great time at Terrazas and highly recommend it to anyone interested in the beautiful Mindo area.

We enjoyed 3 nights at Las Terrazas de Dana lodge and I would have liked to have stayed longer because it was so pleasant and relaxing. The staff (David, Marlon, Veronica, etc) were extremely helpful and regularly went the extra mile to make their guests’ stay relaxing and memorable. The birdlife viewed from our deck was wonderful-our last morning we just relaxed and watched it all unfold from the deck rather than going elsewhere to bird watch. The location is close to other good birdwatching areas, such as the road to the waterfall.
As others have mentioned, breakfast is very tasty and served on your deck if you like. (Try the Ecuadoran breakfast) They were very considerate to offer breakfast later in the morning after we arrived back from a birding trip.
Walk to town is easy (15-20 min) or an inexpensive taxi ride. If staff/vehicle is available, an offer to drop you off is not uncommon. We did not take advantage of dinner at the hotel but it is nice that it is available if you don’t want to go to town and the menu offerings looked tasty.
I was also impressed by this hotel’s environmental commitment-for example, energy efficient lighting, recycling and on-site waste-water treatment (not required and uncommon in this part of the world).

Osmaraa2017, (US) – Tripadvisor review

David, Marlon and the team at Las Terrazas de Dana couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating during our two night stay in Mindo. David arranged our transportation from and to Quito, Marlon picked us up exactly at the time we told them we would be ready, Our cabin was fantastic, it was very private and the views of the cloud forest are phenomenal! The next day our breakfast was served in our balcony exactly at the time we asked them to bring our breakfast, the food was was amazing (try el Tigrillo). We ate dinner one night in and it was one of the best dinners I had in Ecuador during my entire stay. I must say It’s the little things David and his staff do for their guests that makes this place so special; after a long day of hiking I came back to the lodge and mentioned that I had a headache right away they offered to make me a ginger/cinnamon tea and took it up to my room (at no charge), if we left the lodge for a walk they made sure to give us water bottles, they arranged taxis to take us to various places around town but only if their car was not available otherwise they would take us. David takes the time to get to know his guests and takes pride in the service he provides. I would definitely recommend staying at “Las Terrazas de Dana” everything was truly excellent.

Steven Diprose, (GB) – Booking.com review

David, Marlon and the team at Las Terrazas de Dana made our the night stay in Mindo incredible and we can’t thank them enough for everything during our stay. The breakfasts were excellent and we recommend the Tigrillo, a local dish of fried plantain, cheese and onion, topped with a fried egg. The fresh juices are delicious and the code strong and tasty without being bitter. The evening meals were also excellent with soups and salads to start, and various meat dishes with the menu changing every day. Their sangria is excellent, as are their hone made caiprinhas ‘de Mindo’. The bungalows, of which there are only 4, are elegantly appointed with incredible views out over the cloud forest. There is netting over the windows that open, and leaving then open lets you wake up to the sound of the birds and the nearby river – literally nothing else. The guys will serve breakfast on your balcony if you request; eating with hummingbirds feeding in the adjacent bushes is an incredible privilege. There is a TV in the room, but we didn’t even turn it on. There is a Jacuzzi in the bathroom which was excellent to relax in after a long morning of birding (which they will arrange for you) and afternoon of walking around the nearby waterfalls. David or Marlon will drive you to the various attractions if their 4×4 is not already in use, or call you a taxi otherwise. We’ve literally nothing bad to say about this place, we loved every minute of our stay, and of Mindo in general. Thanks so much.

Can’t say enough about the service provided by david, marlon, and the rest of the staff – it was five star while the feeling was like being a guest in someones home. Property itself is fantastic – villas a small walk up from the reception through a lush garden, paths lit by eco friendly solar powered automatic lighting, and a beautiful balcony looking out into the hills that are covered in clouds every morning, with hummingbirds buzzing about the garden. any/all meals could be be brought to balcony, and was delicious. tv had satellite, and while wifi was spotty at times, this was likely due to remote mindo location itself and moreover, david (owner/manager) provides his whatsapp so a quick message down (if you have a phone with working data) and he will reset the router or help with anything else needed. it was small things like this that impressed me the most. other examples were prompt email responses ahead of the trip – i wanted to book mindo tours through them and thought direct booking would need to book the entire package – but still wanted to collect nights on hotels.com, and david happily told me to go ahead and book the hotel separately and took out the hotel cost from the package. activities he helped set up were great and he and marlon our driver were very accommodative and flexibile – if it was raining we would adjust an outdoor activity for a chocolate making tour, or if enroute from airport or quito, marlon would point out the center of the world tour site and we asked to stop and go for quick look and that was fine. we also got wet during the waterfall hike so on way back to hotel we asked to do tubing while we were still wet and marlon sorted everything out (tubing and ziplining are must try) laundry was also provided any time and was a great help for us after 10 days in the galapagos. in fact, i would suggest staying here for a few days after a lengthy galapagos trip (we did diving liveaboard and land tours) is the perfect way to unwind before heading home or onwards to another destination in south america. food was also good with fresh juice and local craft beers included in meals and reasonably priced wine bottles. if there was one half-complaint it would be that small flies get into the villa and were sometimes a nuisance at night, though they were not mosquitos. nets were provided on request and eventually noticed they were mostly fireflies , so it provided a nice show to sleep to.

We spent 3 nights at Las Terrazas de Dana Lodge in Mindo. This picturesque retreat is nestled in the sub-tropical jungle outside Mindo. David, the owner, was very welcoming, as was the staff there. This is a 4 cabin property and each cabin is very private with a lovely porch perfect for watching the hummingbirds and relaxing. We spent a lot of time bird watching (guide Alex was fantastic), taking the cable car to the waterfalls, hiking and enjoying the quiet town of Mindo. Many thanks to David for building such a gorgeous retreat.

Humbie (BE) – Tripadvisor review

I stayed with a buddy for 2 nights in early October. At arrival during heavy rainfall we experienced right away the extra mile that David and his staff does for his guests, as he ran out the door to greet us with umbrellas and carried our, quite heavy, luggage up a long flight of stairs up to our lodges. The lodges are amazing and have a stunning view from the balcony on the exotic gardens, where a lot of birds can be seen, and of course on the cloud forest. To finish it off, both breakfast and dinner were very tasty which we enjoyed a lot. Conclusion: when in Mindo, go to Dana, which is actually named after one of the dogs and who is the mascotte of the place!!

Kathleen (US) – Tripadvisor review
We unfortunately only had scheduled one night in Mindo, but were so lucky to have found Las Terrazas de Dana Lodge via Tripadvisor. The experience was everything we had hoped and it lived up to all the superlative reviews. The owner, David, and his assistant, Marlin, are incredibly helpful — suggesting high points not to be missed in a brief stay. The cable car across the valley and the hikes to 6 waterfalls was a high point of our time in Ecuador. David was kind enough to drive us both ways to the site and back. We also were lucky enough to have bungalow 2; from its porch we looked across the Cloud Forrest and it provided an amazing setting for evening wine and morning breakfast. Mindo is 1 and !/2 hrs from Quito and definitely worth the commute.

Joe (US) – Tripadvisor review

My wife and I spent the month of Aug in Ecuador and three nights at “dana las torrozas de” in Mindo EC; the highlight of our trip. Mindo is a typical Ecuador village with not much to offer with exception of the local attractions all good and inexpensive. We found the cloud forest magnificent and staying at dana’s we were surrounded by the forest. Our bungalow overlooked the valley and breakfast each morning on the deck watching the sunrise along with the hummingbirds almost within reach who stayed throughout the day
Since dana’s is about two miles outside the village, Marlin the all-around guy at the lodge drove us where we needed to go and a $2.00 taxi return. David the owner and along with Marlin were quite ready to service our requirements. The rooms are very unique and exceptionally clean. Each has a hot Tube with jets which we used after our visit to the waterfalls, quite an adventure for a couple of old folks.
Now the bonus: The food was outstanding a breakfast consisting of fruit, yogurt, eggs anyway, coffee and juice of fresh fruit. After arriving late, the first night we eat and our room and was pleasantly surprised with dinner that was equal to any. We eat the next two nights at the lodge enjoying trout and shrimp prepared differently each night. I all most forgot David had surprise deserts each night to die for.
If you do visit “dana las terrazos de” lodge say hello to David and Marlin from Annette and Joe.
A wonderful place to enjoy some relaxing days in the cloud forest of Ecuador.

Review on Tripadvisor from Belgium

What a stunning location to spend some great relaxing times. David, the owner, was always present in order to provide the best possible dedicated service to his guests. When we arrived, it was raining cats and dogs. David was welcoming us with umbrellas and carried our luggage to the bungalows. The view of the balconies is just amazing. The place is located in the middle of the Mindo cloud forest and has lot of tropical vegetation. When you wake up in the morning with the rising sun and the birds singing you feel great to start your day. The bungalows are spotless and brand new with all the comfort and luxury you need. The food is excellent, each day you can choose between different options. You can also enjoy the breakfast and dinner on your private balcony while looking at the hummingbirds and lots of other tropical birds. In the Mindo region there are more than 450 different bird species. I don’t post reviews very often, but in this case I just needed to do it, the place is just amazing.

Brian (US) – Tripadvisor.com review

Las Terrazas de Dana Lodge has four brand new stand-alone bungalows, each with a balcony overlooking a beautiful cloud forest valley. The bungalows are modern and spotless. The grounds are loaded with interesting fruit and flowering plants which attract tons of tropical birds, including hummingbirds everywhere you look. It is the perfect example of a modern, clean, small scale operation sitting in the middle of a spectacular and bio-diverse setting.

The rooms come with breakfast included. The food was excellent with several options from a custom menu each day and an offer to accommodate any special requests. The meals always included lots of fresh fruits and juices. You had the choice of eating at the restaurant or having the food brought to your private balcony. I usually enjoyed my breakfast after taking a sunrise walk around the grounds and along the nearby river. We usually ate dinner or lunch there as well. Again, the menu options were always delicious and interesting.

Although you couldn’t ask for more from an eco-lodge, what really stands out about this place is the service. David (owner/resident) was ever-present on the grounds. We would talk each day about the types of things we were interested in doing. If we knew exactly what we wanted, he was on the phone making the arrangements/reservations, etc. Often times he (or Marlon from his staff) would take us. Sometimes they would stay with us or come back to pick us up and always, at a minimum, pre-arrange with the staff at the place we were visiting to get us a cab (always extremely cheap BTW) back to the lodge when we were done. If we were looking for recommendations, he always had excellent ideas for us. Our ride back to the airport with Marlon was a fun all-day adventure in itself including a couple interesting stops along the way and a soccer game in Quito. This was so far above and beyond that I really do not have words to describe it.

Mindo is an easy, pleasant, and interesting 15 minute walk away. I had eight days in Ecuador and originally planned to stay the first four at Las Terrazas. But I decided to stay all eight. This is the perfect lodge and the perfect place to use as a base to explore the region.

“Everything on site is newly constructed. Spacious room, comfy bed, big TV, large bathroom, WiFi, delicious food, and friendly hospitality. Beautiful view of Mindo Valley. Owner/operator David Brito speaks fluent English, he was very helpful in many ways throughout our stay. Great place to come home to after a long day hiking. Jetted spa is a lifesaver!”

A wonderful place located in a paradise, facilities and 5 star service. I’ve been enjoying for a week of pure nature that surrounds him, and all this sums tranquility, friendliness and service. Excellent work David. Congratulations. I will come back

David, the hotel manager, is very experienced, and it shows. The service is perfect, the ricissima food, especially breakfast is served on the terrace of the room. The location is very good too, near the village but very quiet. Highly recommended!

Everything about the stay was impeccable. The private bungalows are exquisite in their simplicity, and perfect in every way. They allow the stunning scenery to take center stage, and with sweeping floor to ceiling windows allow it to be experienced all day or night. The staff was incredible – very attentive or with a sincerity and genuine interest in my experience which is rare nowawadays. One of my best boutique hotel experiences ever!

Rubén F (AR) – Tripadvisor review

We were only one night as we were passing and we were really looking forward to spending more time. It is incredible for total rest and relaxation, paradise and first-class care place. David and his staff are in every detail as it must be to feel at home.
They have good food service can request in the room and included breakfast is very complete and filling.
The rooms are luxurious, all very good quality and excellent taste and design. A large double jacuzzi to relax after a day of hiking wandered around.
The setting is beautiful, lots of vegetation, birds of all sizes and colors. Waterfalls nearby and the river a few meters for adventure sports. There is a butterfly near worth visiting.
To go back and enjoy.

Davide (CA) – Tripadvisor review

Great getaway spot with modern comfortable bungalows and a quiet rural setting next to a mountain and near the birding trails. The rooms were spotless and David made sure your stay was as comfortable as ever, ensuring every detail was taken care of. Veronica the chef knows how to cook great meals and Javier is a great birder guide that will take you for a walk to view the local birds right from the reception area. Excellent place to stay, highly recommended.

Matthew M (US) – Tripadvisor review

Nestled on the northern hillside of the Rio Mindo, Las Terrazas overlooks the lush valley giving way to the mountains on the other side.

Impeccably designed and built in a modern style that fits perfectly with the natural surroundings (the north and eastern side of the property is enclosed in a lush bamboo forest), the real treat is the excellent quality of service provided. Nothing is spared in the way of particular attention given to your every want from food to extra towels.

Perfectly situated less than 5 minutes from the Mindo strip, Las Terrazas is a great place for couples or families to relax with a beverage on the enormous patios overlooking the valley. You’ll be greeted by dozens of hummingbirds and butterflies while you relax.

The Mindo Canopy Adventure and the River Rafting (tubing experience by XTreme) are less than 4 minutes away in the car down the path.

Erik (NO) – Tripadvisor review

I booked a stay at Las Terrazas de Dana for the opportunity to relax and also see what activities Mindo has to offer, and here you definitely get both sorts. The place is breathtakingly beautiful with very nice and clean bungalows with lots of space. Outside there is plenty hummingbirds and even the occasional toucan to be seen while enjoying the amazing views. David, the owner, was very attentive and friendly throughout my stay, he helped me arrange activities and drove me around in his 4×4. We even went zip-lining together which was a lot of fun.

Unfortunately for me I got sick on the way over from Quito after eating some bad food, but David helped me out with painkillers and various meals that are good for your stomach. Las Terrazas turned out to be a great place to recover from illness, and thanks to him I got better within a few days. This place is top tier and probably the nicest place I’ve stayed during my trip to Ecuador. Highly recommended!

We had a very nice stay with David at Dana’s Terrazas. The rooms are excellent, the view is superb, David is an excellent host – he does everything to make your stay as agreeable as you can imagine – he and his staff makes you a tasteful dinner or breakfast, tells you where and how to go, all you can imagine. The lodge is a little outside Mindo centre, on the way to the falls. Very, very nice. Thank you David. Jan, Joep, Ingrid, Alexandra and Michaela. We can recommend your lodge to every visitor of Mindo!

Simon C (UK) – Tripadvisor review

We have been travelling in South America now for 4 months & this is easily the best place we have stayed. David, the owner cannot do enough to make your stay perfect, the views from the bungalows are exquisite (with lots of hummingbirds seen from your balcony) & the food is delicious (which you can elect to eat in the restaurant or on your room terrace). This is a must stay place and we would highly recommend it.

Elizabeth H (US) – Tripadvisor review

First and foremost the service at this hotel was excellent!! From prior to arrival and even after departure David and his staff are willing and happy to help with anything they can. He is easily reached by email for a variety of questions and happy to reply quickly. He helped us even with transportation to and from Mindo, helping us arrange a taxi for a long commute to Quito.
Upon arrival he greeted us with his staff and adorable dogs! Took our baggage up to our bungalow and helped us book/plan multiple activities for the next day. The room was extremely clean and modern, very comfortable.
They were happy to fix an excellent breakfast and even dinner if you are interested and you can eat in the lovely dining area or in your room on the balcony if you desire.
My sincere thank you for an incredible stay at your lovely place & Dana
Your superb service, excellent care and incredible assistance in planning activities made our stay most memorable.

Sergio (CU) – Tripadvisor review
We strongly recommend to visit this beatiful place. Sitting down to breakfast on the terrace of your cabin with an extraordinary view and nature singing the song of dozens of birds was an unforgettable experience. Dana terraces on met our expectations. The very spacious as was the bathroom, a very comfortable bed, TV with good programming, jacuzzi in the bathroom, everything perfectly clean and new, good food served in your own cottage food. Differentiated mention to David Brito and his team for their friendliness and high quality service. The place is quite near the town of Mindo and there is easy access to reach attractions like the way through the canyon in the “cable car” or hiking to visit the Sanctuary of waterfalls. I think so, we spent a weekend in paradise.

Katherine N (US) – Tripadvisor review

The view, the service, the room and the food makes this hotel a top notch place to stay. We stayed here for two days and on our way through Quito I suffered from food poisoning. My husband was suffering from a cold and I asked if they could make us a chicken soup for dinner. It was the best soup! The food here is truly top notch. Breakfast was delicious. I recommend the pancakes. They delivered the food to our bungalow so we could enjoy the view. Dinner can also be enjoyed on your terrace.

The hotel also offers tickets to local attractions and David will happily give you a lift. Communicating with David before and during our stay was very easy. His responses are prompt and very helpful.

We were greeted by two adorable dogs who were rescued by David.

We tried to move our schedule around so we could enjoy a few more days here but unfortunately could not. If we end up in Ecuador again, we will surely stay here.

Mr. Li (US) – Tripadvisor review

We had such a great time in Mindo/Las Terrazas de Dana that it was hard to say goodbye to David.

Before our arrival, David was extremely helpful on our trip planning, answering every email and helping coordinating our birding activities in Mindo (ask David for recommendation if you want to have a local bird guide).

The lodge is situated a few steps away from the busy town, so it’s nice and quiet. It’s actually a closer (and beautiful) walk to the waterfall and canopy. The bungalows are brand new, roomy and bright, with balcony to enjoy the fantastic view. The food was so delicious, we decided to dine in the lodge everyday (and anxious to see what’s the dessert of the day).

What makes the lodge stands out is that David and Veronica (chef) went out of their way to take care every need of the guest, which made us feel special. The bungalow was setup for 2, but David had no problem adding an extra bed for our teenager son, and the bungalow is roomy enough to accommodate us.

We do highly recommend this place, we are looking forward to visiting David again.

Six stars! No, 10! No, that’s not quite right either. One million stars!

As you may have surmised, we really, *really* enjoyed our stay at Las Terrazas de Dana. Davíd and his staff were simply amazing. It began with a special meal request for my vegan boyfriend (there’s a note on the menu mentioning that ordering off menu is fine and can be accommodated). For each of the three nights we ate dinner, the chef created something special, just for him. We even gave her the option to prepare one of the dishes she’d made for him before, but she totally just crafted something new for him each night. Totally above and beyond! I happened to get sick while we were in Mindo and, again, the staff completely took care of me – specially prepared BRAT diet items to settle my tummy and medicinal tea that’s supposed to do the same (and I swear it worked!). Although it wasn’t our intention, we never actually left our bungalow for the entire three days and three nights we were there. All I had to do was send an email requesting a beer, or water, or our breakfast/dinner request, and Davíd or his staff would show up. Service overall was top notch.

Aside from that level of thoughtfulness, though, the bungalows themselves are very well thought out. Their placement overlooking the forest means that regardless of whether it’s sunny or foggy, rainy or cloudy, your view is always fantastic. The two person jacuzzi has the same view that you’d have from the bed or from the balcony. Davíd picked specific plants that are natural attractants for hummingbirds and butterflies, so they were always fluttering around. The room furnishings are minimal (so as to not detract from the view), but very nicely done. Even the materials used felt very lush and luxurious.

The wifi signal from our bungalow (the one farthest from the main house) was typically pretty weak, but it allowed us to just unplug even more fully. There was construction happening in the main part of town that left much of Mindo without electricity for the majority of the day, but Las Terrazas de Dana had a generator so there was always power when we needed it.

Davíd also offers help with getting tickets to various activities in the area and is more than happy to offer tips and suggestions for things outside of Mindo, too; for example, he referred us to a restaurant in Quito for a view of the city. He also was able to offer us a ride into town to catch our bus and helped me find a place to buy postcard stamps before we left.

Bottom line: You would be making a big mistake not to stay at Las Terrazas de Dana. We were joking around that we were just going to max out our credit cards and stay for as long as possible because everything was so lovely. Go! Go now and check it out for … Read More

Magnificient stay

We are just out of a fabulous 3 days stay in Las Terraza de Dana. We chose this place based on the outstanding reviews on Triadvisor, and we can only say that this resort already lives by its reputation.

First, the place, in remote Mindo, offers breathtaking views over a gorgeous and amazingly quiet valley. The surroundings of the hotel are really, really green, and is a must see place for nature lovers. During our 3 days stay in Mindo, we therefore got the chance to hike a lot around the many trails and remote gravel roads around the property.

Then, the property itself is amazing. Everything is very simple, authentic, yet beautifully thought after. The panoramic bay windows offer a one-in-a-kind experience every morning. The rooms are very lofty and comfy (including incredibly comfortable beddings), and the bathroom is spacious and the hot tub offers an amazing view over the valley while keeping everything very intimate.

Lastly, and mots importantly, the service provided by David and his team is totally amazing. We have thoroughly enjoyed the unique hospitality and sense of care that David put to make our stay an overall amazing experience. David spent all the time necessary to explain all the whereabouts and things to do in Mindo, and has been extremely helpful in assisting us when we had to re-route our schedule due to the ongoing Cotopaxi eruption. Given this, we had to stay one more night here, but we totally enjoyed our day. The food is also very good and fabulous, especially the outstanding Ceviche by Veronica (not to mention the great breakfasts that we enjoyed straight from our private terrace – a one in a kind experience).

All in all, so many thanks to everyone at Las Terraza de Dana for making our stay in Mindo – the first leg of our tour in Ecuador – such an amazing experience;)

Perfection!

It almost seems silly to write yet another excellent review for Las Terrazas de Dana, but it’s well worth repeating how absolutely fantastic this place is. This was our last stop on a 3-week tour of Ecuador and it was by far the best decision we made. David was flexible and accommodating to our crazy plans; so helpful and hospitable. The room with terrace was beautiful with a great view and lots of birds/butterflies. And the food was delicious. Also the best we’d had on our trip. David set us up with a wonderful bird guide, and also arranged transport back to Quito’s airport for us. Staying at Las Terrazas was the perfect end to our trip. Thank you, David!

“Las Terrazas – One of the Most Positive Hotel Experiences I Have Had”

I stayed in Superior Bungalow Superior #3 with my wife and son for 2 nights from 26-28 November 2015.

1 – Upon arrival, the owner, David Brito welcomed us with open arms to the lodge. David is a genuinely nice fellow – you can tell that he really does care about the comfort and needs of his guests. He gave us his phone number and email and said to call/email him anytime with anything that we needed. He also offered to bring us into Mindo town if necessary in his vehicle. He also came directly to our room and took our lunch and dinner orders. Didn’t even have to wait at the restaurant – he called us in the room to let us know the food was ready!

2 – The food was FANTASTIC!!! The chef, Veronica is fantastic! She was also very nice to us and, like David, wanted to ensure that we enjoyed our food and everything was just right. Best appetizer – Fried Yuca with guacamole (wow!) My favorite dishes – shrimp fettuccine and grilled chicken with mushroom sauce! And for dessert – she made a cheesecake that was one of the best cheesecakes I have had – better than New York cheesecake.

3. Meals brought to your room! In the morning, I watched as David and Veronica climbed up the steep flight of stairs to our room with large trays – scrambled eggs, pancakes, toast, juice, coffee, tea and fruit plates!

4. The room. Very new room – everything is extremely clean. There is a hot tub in the room. The shower is very nice – a LARGE shower head that is perfect. Water pressure is great. Hot water constantly. Beds were really comfortable. They brought in an extra bed for my son that worked well. (Normally when hotels bring in extra beds, they are in crappy condition and small.) So, it was nice to see that he had a large enough bed and it was fairly new. There is a 32 inch TV on the wall with direct TV. There is also a large porch outside that looks into the mountains of Mindo. Hummingbirds and butterflies are right outside your door.

5. Things to do. David made some really great suggestions on activities to do while we were there (we had never been to Mindo, so we needed some suggestions.) . We did several activities that he recommended – and we had a great time.

6. Overall, one of the most positive hotel experiences I have had. I would highly recommend this lodge to anyone and plan to return soon. Thanks again David and Veronica for a great experience!

Top-notch accommodations with spectacular view

After experiencing two other ‘less-than-memorable’ hotels in Ecuador, let me tell you, we were very happy to have finished up our vacation at Las Terrazas de Dana near Mindo. Everything on site was newly constructed. Large bed, jetted spa, good-sized flat-screen TV – amenities you just don’t find anywhere down in Ecuador. Proprietor David Brito speaks fluent English and made sure we were taken care of. You may think of walking into Mindo for food, but you’ll learn (like we did) that the best quality food is made on-site. The house cook, Veronica, made us a tasty breakfast every morning (at a time we selected) to enjoy on our patio. Overall a great experience – I hope to return.

If you are seeking 5-star service, awesome food, immaculate accommodations, a knowledgeable tour guide, peace and quite (only the sounds of birds chirping), and amazing views of the cloud forest – then look no further ! There is no place better to stay in Mindo, Ecuador than at Las Terrazas de Dana. My wife and I spent nine wonderful days here, and celebrated our 25’th wedding anniversary. David & Veronica decorated our room and the hot tub with rose petals, a bottle of red wine, and lit candles on our anniversary night. They served us breakfast on our private veranda in the morning, so we could look at the mountains and enjoy the hummingbirds at the feeder beside our deck. They found out that my wife loves chocolate – and made her a “chocolate lava cake” dessert for our anniversary dinner and hot chocolate for breakfast. David always seemed to magically “need” to ride into town for something, at the exact times when we were planning to take the brief 15-min hike in to town or to an excursion on our own – and thus he would drive us or pick us up, instead of our walking (we finally had to insist that we walk, so we could exercise and work off all the great food). David even offered and did some laundry for us – so that I could donate my hiking shirts to a local missionary when we left. We did not get sick the entire time that we were in Mindo, except for the day that we opted to eat dinner at a restaurant in town – rather than here, where we had eaten most of our meals (lesson learned – why go into town and take the risk when the food here is great and safe?). Most of the excursions are all very close to here as well – including las cascades (waterfalls you can hike to after an amazing cable car ride), ziplines over the canopy, butterfly / bird sanctuaries, tubing, etc.. It is also really nice being outside of Mindo’s downtown area – as the seclusion and privacy is much nicer than the sounds of cars, people, etc that come with being in town. There are three dogs that live on the property (who are quite friendly) – to make sure that any visitors are announced upon arrival, and to keep any lost rainforest creatures off of the property (it provides some added safety & protection). My wife and I both felt that we were treated like family – and we certainly consider David & Veronica to be our new friends ! We will most certainly stay here when we return to Mindo, Ecuador again – as it will be like “coming home” and visiting “our new family”.. (NOTE : a true testament to how great these folks are – My wife left her wedding band sitting on the nightstand in the cabana, … Read More
