Most Mindo itineraries are built around motion: waterfalls, ziplines, early leks. The spa exists for the other half of the trip — the afternoon when it rains, the day after a 5:30 AM start, or the deliberate decision to come to the cloud forest and do very little. We built the spa at Las Terrazas de Dana for exactly that.
What it is
A small spa at the lodge, surrounded by the same forest the birds live in. The soundtrack is not a playlist: hummingbirds at the feeders, rain on the leaves when it arrives, the river below. Treatments run the classic range — massage and body work — in a setting where the view through the window does half the relaxing.
The SPA20 discount
Use code SPA20 for 20% off spa treatments. Ask us about it when you book or when you enquire about your stay; we'll confirm what's available for your dates and apply the discount.
When a spa afternoon earns its place
- After the early starts. The best birding in Mindo happens at dawn. A lek visit at 6 AM, the waterfalls route before lunch, and a massage at 4 PM is a well-balanced day, not a lazy one.
- In the wet season. From late October through April, showers arrive most afternoons. The spa is the activity that rain improves.
- Between Galápagos and reality. A large share of our guests come off a cruise or are heading to one. A spa day is the buffer that turns travel days into rest days. See how the Galápagos-Mindo combination works.
- Honeymoons. It pairs with everything in our honeymoon guide.
How to fit it into your stay
| Stay | Natural spa slot |
|---|---|
| 2 days | Late afternoon, day 2, after the morning activity |
| 3 days | The afternoon of the rest day, or after the chocolate tour |
| 4 days | Whenever the schedule says "flexible" — that's what it's for |
Prices for individual treatments vary by type and length, so we don't publish a fixed menu here — ask us for current rates when you enquire, and apply the SPA20 discount on top.
What to book around
If you're doing a birding program or an all-inclusive package, tell us when you want the spa and we'll build the day around it — the guides and the spa table can share a schedule if we know in advance. Same if you're arriving from Quito on our private transfer ($105 each way): a treatment after the drive is a popular first-evening plan.
What to expect practically
- Book ahead for afternoon slots, especially on weekends
- Wear whatever you like; robes and towels are at the spa
- The forest is close enough to touch: treatments happen with the terrace doors open when the weather allows
What the treatments are
The menu runs the classic spa range — relaxation massage, deep tissue for post-hike shoulders, and body work tuned to what you have been doing to yourself on the trails. What is not standard is the setting: the treatment space opens to the forest terrace, so the soundtrack is hummingbirds at the feeders and rain arriving on the canopy rather than a speaker. Sessions run by length and type rather than a fixed ritual — tell the therapist what your legs have been through and the treatment adjusts. If you are doing the high-altitude birding days (5:30 AM starts, steep trail work), say so: the post-birding massage is the most requested session on the menu, and the difference between a generic massage and one aimed at hiker legs is the difference between resting and recovering.
